The Nomad travel tower explainedA solid construction made from 4 mm marine grade aluminium panels for durability, combined with aircraft grade billet aluminium cross members. Beautifully machined to tight tolerances. Self bearing construction with a solid connection to headstock with 4 bolts, no welding or frame modifications required. 100% Bolt-on construction, tested under extreme conditions. All fasteners in stainless steel.
Designed as a travel and rally navigation tower The tower for our EXC Nomad is designed as both a rally and a travel tower. The basic tower structure of each version is the same, and can easily be extended with either our rally kit or simply fit a GPS and USB charging points for travel use. Our navigation towers have been tested all over the world in just about every major rally there is. They have also been used in extreme conditions on all 6 continents by adventurers from all over the world. The Nomad tower has room for 4 switches to power accessories such as heated grips or clothing or extra spotlights. We also have the option of up to 4 USB charging points, DIN accessory plugs and an ignition lock. We fitted the tower as low as possible to give maximum view of the front wheel. We are firm believers of no-nonsense engineering, which results in a strong and practical construction which is repairable on the road. For strength and repairability we made a bolted rather than welded construction, which also allows for easy flat-pack style shipping. |
For rally use we have a range of options, ranging from regular to Pro Roadbook holders, F2R and Laba7 Roadbooks, tripmeters from RNS and ICO, Our Pro-bar mount helps to prevent your handlebar from breaking and doubles as a Sentinel mounting bracket.
The rally kit has a quick release system, which together with the F2R connection box allows a quick transformation from a travel to a rally bike.

Dakar inspired design
Wind protection is provided by an original KTM 450RR Rally screen, designed in a wind tunnel and tested in the Dakar at speeds of up to 170 km/hr! Well over the requirements of true travellers perhaps but a testimony to how good these screens are. Not only a very good and tested screen, but also widely available from every KTM dealer and for a realistic price, which fits in with our philosophy to make a kit which can be repaired easily when on the road. Proven construction and made for travelling In contrast to other offerings, the Nomad tower is complete. Ready for fitment to the bike straight out of the box, nothing more to pay. It bolts to the bike, no welding required. The wiring is neatly enclosed inside the tower, using the original wiring loom and using the same methods for fitment as used in helicopters to ensure the wiring doesn't get chafed in rough terrain. For items like a GPS, satellite tracker, Go-Pro etc. we have made provisions for up to 5 RAM mounts. They are readily available, inexpensive, work very well and have proven to be virtually indestructible. The tower can accommodate up to 4 USB charging points or a combination of USB and DIN accessory connectors. The switches are extreme heavy duty, rain waterproof and don't need external relays to operate items like spotlights, fog lights, heated vests, heated grips etc. There are 4 holes pre-cut for the switches. The option for an ignition lock helps to ensure your bike also stays yours. |

To ensure high quality we use marine grade aluminium and CNC/laser cut each part using the latest equipment. Each part is finished to a high standard (everything chamfered obviously, no sharp edges). All components are locally made, over 95% right here in Holland. No made in China parts used in the tower and even the switches we use are made in Europe! The switches are expensive as they are capable of switching heavy loads without the need of extra relays. For ease of use we also looked for a modular construction, one which could incorporate a wide range of headlight configurations, wouldn't tie you down to one particular type of GPS and can accommodate various types of digital dash options available (including re-using the original Husqvarna TrailTech dash but then in an easier to read position).

To make it into something that actually works and fits, you need a variety of extra and optional brackets. Some of them even require drilling or welding to the frame! Most of them have the wiring hanging all over the place, out in the weather and no room for accessory switches. By the time you're finished they have not only become quite expensive but more often than not look like a mismatch of a Meccano construction.

We have nothing against carbon fibre, but for safety reasons we've chosen aluminium for the tower. Aluminium doesn't shred into thousands of sharp, ragged and potentially lethal sharp edges on impact. Our tower is rounded where it matters, on very heavy impact it might bend (although we have yet to see one doing that, but it will never shatter.
We don't use cheap labour...

Baja Designs Squadron Lights
2x 26W LED lights produce 3,150 lumens each of pure power to light up the trail .Low beam is a wide driving pattern that offers a 42° flattened horizontal beam for the ultimate in comfort lighting. While High beam is a longer and narrower 9° beam for illumination further down the trail or road. The Spot pattern is designed to be used in conjunction with the wide driving pattern, giving you a total of 6,300 lumens. Useable beam range: 150 m Weight: 680 grams |
Vision-X Optimus E-Marked
2x10 Watt Single Source LED Pods featuring a powerful LED Halo Ring on the outer rim of the IRIS Reflector. 15° E-marked Approved Beam Pattern. Light kit comes complete with low beam and high beam covers to provide both distance and spread. CNC machine waterproof housing and shock resistant. Only 20 Watts in total yet giving considerably more light than the original H4 unit. Useable beam range: 120 m Weight: 1400 grams |
Vision-X Dura light kit
For even more light we have the Dura range: 1x10 Watts and 1x20 Watts, giving a total of 30 Watts. The large 20 Watts Dura has 2x10° and 2x 40° LEDS for both a wide and distance beam. Gives more light than a 100 Watt Halogen. The smaller Dura has a wide 60° beam for use as daytime running light. CNC machine waterproof housing and shock resistant. Not E-marked.
